This morning on the metro a toddler in her stroller pointed at me and said, “Da Da!” I thought maybe she was just making noise, but then her mom said, “No, honey, that’s not da da.” So I’m feeling confident that I look preeeetttyyy gooood today.

- I joined the 3rd District MPD listserv mainly to see the daily crime reports which, in itself, was kind of morbid of me as I really just want to see where in relation to my apartment people got shot/stabbed/mugged the night before, but it turns out I am getting a lot of really fantastic email from these random people in the community (especially one woman who is really gung-ho about you cleaning out your car to not be a target for break-ins) including this absolute gem that definitely made my day.

I was going to write

I do this a lot:
Write in my head for a while,
Relive a moment,
Think I should document it

For me to laugh about later.
To memorialize any part of my life.
To find meaning
Maybe.
In ten years,

It will read like a woebegone diary;
My whiny plaintive voice.

I’m writing this like it’s supposed to be poetry.
It’s pretty shit.
Whatever it was that I was going to say,
It was probably worse than this.

This morning I walked through the lobby to the bookstore
To get my morning coffee and bagel
Where the employees laugh about how I get the same thing
Every morning
For at least 4 years:
Medium Iced Coffee, sweetened.
Plain Bagel toasted with Butter.

I don’t even think that’s a Washington accent
